Year 1
In Year 1 children work in their class groups. Classrooms are large and children have plenty of room for role play and practical activities to ensure their move into year 1 is a smooth transition.
Curriculum:
Autumn: Children in year 1 begin with a topic 'All about me'. They will be learning about growing up, their senses and exploring our school and people who help us. In the second half term, the children will be learning Light and Dark. They will explore how lights are used in celebrations, on toys and in houses in the past and present.
In Literacy, they will learn words and sounds, and begin to write short phrases and sentences. In maths they will be looking at pattern and counting, learning to add and take away, and doing lots of measuring!
Year 2
In Year 2 children work in a mix of ability groups and class groups to ensure every child receives the best education possible. At the end of Year 2, children usually transfer to our Junior School.
